Job Title: Project Manager (Full Time – 18 Month Contract)

Location: Nairobi with regular travel 

Responsibilities

The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for leading Cherehani Lab’s project (s) from initiation through closure, managing constraints, and achieving project objectives.

    1. Develop, maintain, and baseline the detailed project schedule. Ensure tasks are logically sequenced, dependencies are identified, and resource allocation is optimized.
    2. Track expenditure against the approved budget 
    3. Define acceptance criteria and Quality Assurance (QA) standards in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency. Ensure project deliverables meet defined quality gates.
    4. Proactively identify, analyze, and prioritize project risks and opportunities. Develop and implement risk response plans (mitigation, avoidance, transference). Maintain the risk register.
    5. Develop and execute a communication plan tailored to different audiences (e.g., daily standups, weekly status reports, steering committee updates). Ensure transparency on project status and roadblocks.
    6. Act as the primary escalation point for all project issues. Log, track, and drive the resolution of critical issues, escalating to the Directors when necessary.
    7. Manage external vendors or suppliers, including contract oversight, performance monitoring, and ensuring timely delivery of procured goods or services.
    8. Motivate, mentor, and lead the project team. Foster a collaborative environment and ensure team members understand their roles and responsibilities.
    9. Secure necessary resources (human and equipment) and manage their capacity and allocation throughout the project lifecycle. Resolve resource conflicts with functional managers.
    10. Mediate and resolve interpersonal and functional conflicts within the project team to maintain productivity.
    11. Obtain formal final acceptance and sign-off on all project deliverables.
    12. Conduct a comprehensive post-mortem/lessons learned session with the project team and stakeholders. Document best practices and areas for improvement.
    13. Close all contracts, update organizational process assets, and archive project documentation.
