Organizational Background
Problem
Financial illiteracy, lack of credit history and asset ownership inhibit women and girls’ access to credit, limiting their socio-economic mobility.
Our Model
Cherehani Africa is a social enterprise that provides asset financing for production tools and business loans to women and adolescent girls who own micro-enterprises in rural and underserved markets. Most conventional financial institutions are not able to provide credit to them because they fall outside the traditional risk assessment in banking which relies on credit/transactional history and asset ownership.
Unlike traditional financial institutions we distribute targeted phone-based financial literacy content and leverage traditional and non-traditional data to anticipate, screen and prioritize credit applications allowing us to provide instant, affordable and collateral free mobile loans.
